Options Abound in West Side Savannah Real Estate Market

Savannah’s west side is the location of the Savannah / Hilton Head International Airport, and is within fifteen minutes of the city’s downtown area. Nestled between the major highways I-95 and I-16, west side Savannah real estate is in convenient driving distance to Charleston, Jacksonville, Atlanta and all points in between.

Besides being in a choice of location, Savannah real estate on the west side is one of the fastest growing areas of Savannah and Chatham County, with several retail plazas, restaurants, and service oriented shops and communities under construction.

Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation is located on the west side of Savannah, Georgia, and is the third largest employer in Chatham County. The company manufactures elite private jets and employs more than 4,000 people.

The heart of Savannah's west side is Pooler, whose history dates back to the 1800’s as a campground for General Sherman’s army. The city is currently celebrating its 100th year of incorporation.

Pooler had just over 6,000 residents in 2000, and is an affordable, family-oriented Savannah real estate community. Local attractions include the Crosswinds Golf Club, a public course located near the airport, the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum, the Oglethorpe Speedway and the Savannah Ogeechee Canal Museum.

Most of the shopping and dining offerings in Pooler consist of large chains, but the one-of-a-kind can be found in strip malls and stand alone shops. Pooler’s commerce is growing and tentative plans are for a large-scale movie theater and a shopping mall.

The city of Pooler offers a senior citizen’s program that has been successful for the past 20 years. Activities include health and exercise classes, arts and crafts, day trips and shopping trips.

Churches in Pooler lean toward the traditional, with the mainstays of Baptist, Methodist, Lutheran and Presbyterian.

There are three public schools in Pooler, and one private. Two of the public schools are elementary and the third is a middle school. A high school is planned for the area.

When it comes to Savannah real estate, Pooler has something for every prospective Savannah real estate buyer. The prestigious Savannah Quarters is one of the newest Savannah real estate communities, while Southbridge was one of the earlier developments. Both offer the ultimate in Savannah’s premiere golf communities.

The village of Savannah Quarters is unique in that it reflects the neighborhood of days gone by in a modern and innovative way. A planned addition to the community will include shops, restaurants, entertainment and office space.

Homes options in this Savannah real estate development range from cottage and patio homes to villas and custom homes. Maintenance free properties are also available. Amenities include an 18-hole Greg Norman Signature Golf Course, swimming, tennis and fitness. Plans for this Savannah real estate community to resemble a small town are reflective of the developer’s dedication to restoring the charm of neighborhoods from America’s beloved past.

Whether choosing from Georgian, Federal or other architectural designs including maintenance free townhouse dwellings, Southbridge real estate has something for everyone.

Southbridge was developed in 1987, and is conveniently located within ten miles of Historic Downtown Savannah. This esteemed address is in close proximity to the airport and I-16. Although Southbridge is near the pulse of the city, its entry and slow, meandering roads present the feel of a quiet sanctuary. As you drive through the community, you will note lush foliage and home sites that feature lagoon, lakefront, or wooded views. Among the amenities are championship golf, tennis, walking trails and a fitness spa. Development is still underway and new home sites are available for prospective Savannah real estate buyers.

The Farm at Morgan Lakes is a new Savannah real estate community with a rural theme. The gated grounds include a silo and windmill, and homes range from the low $150’s to the high $200’s.

Godley Station offers several communities and is considered one of the most desirable locations for family living within the Savannah real estate market. This development provides options from apartments to single-family Cape Cods or cottages, homes of traditional and modern design, as well as estates and executive properties. Godley Station represents some of the top builders in the coastal region who have come together to contribute to the birth of a new community.

Godley Station’s communities offer amenities that include swimming, tennis, fitness spas, basketball and volleyball courts as well as secluded walking trails. What once were acres of barren land alongside I-95 and I-16 has become a Mecca for singles, families and retirees.

North of Pooler is Port Wentworth, where two large Savannah real estate communities are under development. Rice Hope is a 4,000-unit property with homes ranging in the mid $150’s to the high $500’s. Rice Hope features a 21-acre water park, walking trails, sidewalks and a high tech package. Retail and commercial development plans are currently underway. //
